About

A carefully curated mix of history and tradition seen through a modern eye.

A Place Born of Vision

Le Mas d’Anez is the result of a shared dream—a deeply personal journey by Wolfgang and Susan Hofherr to create a place where history, beauty, and a sense of belonging could coexist. What began as a neglected property has been transformed into a timeless retreat where European craftsmanship and the Provençal way of life are celebrated.

The estate blends rich historical architecture with a curated collection of designer furniture and art, featuring works by Josef Frank, Ettore Zaccari, and Marco Zanuso, alongside Murano glass and bespoke pieces from Cox London and Memphis Milano. Every detail reflects the Hofherrs’ dedication to preserving the meaningful while embracing thoughtful change.

From lavender-filled gardens to artfully curated interiors, Le Mas d’Anez offers a unique dialogue between history and contemporary design, artistry and nature.

The History of Le Mas d’Anez

The story of Mas d’Anez stretches back to the 10th century, when the family of Agnez or Anez was first recorded in northern France. In the 13th century, Bauduin d’Anez made a striking gesture of devotion, donating half his estate to the Knights Templar. By the 17th century, the property had evolved into a classic Provençal bastide, complete with intricate architectural details and a reputation as a gathering place for prominent families.

After decades of dormancy, the estate began its restoration in 2001. The work honored its history while introducing new life to the grounds: olive trees, now producing AOP Provence olive oil, were planted alongside cypress hedges. The restoration was not about recreating the past but about giving it relevance today, blending tradition with modern amenities and contemporary design elements. The estate’s layered history is still palpable, yet it feels distinctly alive and connected to the present.

Le Mas d'Anez, Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil

A Legacy of Olives

At Le Mas d’Anez, the olive tree is more than a symbol of Provence—it is part of the estate’s soul. With nearly 1,200 olive trees planted during the estate’s restoration, the land has become a thriving source of superior quality olive oil. Each tree is carefully nurtured, and the olives are harvested and cold-extracted on-site, producing a pure, unfiltered extra virgin olive oil that reflects the richness of the Provençal landscape.

Crafted by Wolfgang and Susan Hofherr, this oil is a true expression of their dedication to preserving the estate’s agricultural heritage. Fruity and balanced, with subtle almond notes, it’s a testament to the care and vision behind Le Mas d’Anez.

A bottle of this exceptional olive oil holds more than flavor—it carries with it the history, passion, and artistry of the land it comes from.

Wolfgang and Susan Hofherr

Wolfgang & Susan Hofherr

Wolfgang and Susan Hofherr are known for their ability to uncover beauty in unexpected places. As the founders of Authentic Provence, they’ve spent decades seeking out and curating antiques with an eye for craftsmanship and a deep respect for history.

Wolfgang, whose career spans over 45 years, approaches antiques with the philosophy that understanding comes from handling pieces and learning their stories. Susan, who cultivated her discerning taste during her time in Haute Couture, complements his approach with a sharp instinct for elegance and quality. Together, they have built a reputation not just as collectors but as stewards of European design and tradition.

Le Mas d’Anez is a natural extension of their work. The Hofherrs’ restoration wasn’t about grandeur—it was about creating a space that feels real and personal. The introduction of designer furniture and art from names like Josef Danhauser, Federico Munari, and Hans Koegler, along with luxury elements from Herve Baume and Villeroy & Boch, elevates the estate into something entirely unique. For the Hofherrs, it’s not just about preserving history but about reinterpreting it in a way that feels modern, thoughtful, and unmistakably their own.
